Diabetic Routine Foot Care

Diabetic Routine Foot Care and Wound Care

Uncontrolled diabetic condition inevitably leads to circulatory and neurological conditions in the lower extremities.  Diabetic routine foot care offers a check-up for the high-risk diabetic population to maintain good foot health and to prevent infection and wounds to their feet.  But when wounds do occur, we have the expertise to manage the condition to prevent the loss of limb. Read Our Blog Article on the 9 best tips on prevention of diabetic foot problems.

Orthopedic or Therapeutic Shoes

Therapeutic shoes are not only supportive shoes, they are also wider and roomier shoes to accommodate difficult sized feet due to certain foot deformities.  We carry a line of various shoe styles from dress shoes to tennis shoes.  We will measure your feet, help you choose the shoes that fit your needs and order the shoes for you.  We will ensure the proper fitting of your selection.  If you have diabetes and fit certain criteria, the Medicare therapeutic shoes prevention program may cover the cost of the shoes.  Ask the doctor for more information about the program during your diabetic foot exam.

Sports-Related Injuries

Sports-Related Injuries

Overuse injuries during athletic activities are commonly encountered.  Under conditioning, unrealistic expectation, poor biomechanics of the feet, and improper selection of shoe gear can all lead to sports-related injuries.   But when you suffer from an injury, we will do our very best to treat you and return you to functional level in the shortest amount of time possible.  Better yet, we will assess the cause of your injury and educate you on the prevention of them for the future.

Children foot disorders

We name our practice Family Podiatry of Maryland because we realize that children need services too. From warts to ingrown toenails, the various conditions can interfere with a kid’s routine from school attendance to his/her soccer game. We could identify your child’s abnormal gait to poor foot positioning from birth that affects the integrity of the joints and growth of the bone structure. Preventively, we can prescribe custom orthotics or inserts to realign the feet back to their normal position. The inserts could help build the arches up to a certain age before the child reaches maturity. Another common disorder is Sever’s disease, where an active child develops heel pain, the growth plate of the heel is injured by excessive forces during a sports activity.

PADnet System

Non-invasive Vascular exam with the PADNET system

A PADnet exam is a non-invasive exam that helps the doctor in determining if you have a peripheral arterial disease.  The test assesses your arterial blood flow to the lower extremities.  It consists of placing blood pressure cuffs on various parts of your extremities.  Based on their reading, the doctor can correctly identify the cause of your condition.  So if you have lower leg pain with increased activities in your calves or in your feet at rest, this could be the first sign of inadequate blood flow to the legs and feet.  Talk to your doctor about these symptoms.  This test takes approximately 20 minutes to perform.  The result is available within a couple of days.

Custom Orthotics or Ankle and Foot Orthoses

Custom orthotics or inserts are made to correct the abnormal position/biomechanics of the foot and ankle.  They have a functional role to return the foot and ankle to their normal alignment and provide support to decrease pain in the feet and other joints.  Remember, the feet are the foundation of the body.  When they are out of alignment, they affect the kinetic chain to other joints proximally, leading to stress and other symptoms.  And when the control and support are needed more proximally, the ankle and foot orthoses are indicated.
