Check Your Circulation. Save Your Feet.
Fast, Painless Vascular Testing with PADnet®
What is Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)?
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a serious, yet often silent, circulatory problem where narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs, most commonly the legs. This condition is crucial to detect early because it severely restricts the body’s ability to heal and can lead to dangerous complications, particularly for those with diabetes.
At Family Podiatry of Maryland, our focus is on preventative, whole-body health, starting from the ground up.
Introducing the Non-Invasive PADnet Exam
To accurately diagnose and assess the severity of PAD, we use the advanced PADnet system—a simple, non-invasive test performed right here in our office.
How the PADnet Exam Works:
The PADnet test utilizes blood pressure cuffs placed on your arms and ankles/legs, similar to a standard blood pressure reading. It measures the blood pressure at various points to calculate the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) and takes Pulse Volume Recordings (PVRs).
The Silent Threat: Why Early PAD Detection Matters
PAD is much more than just "bad circulation"—it is a major health warning sign. It is estimated that one in every 20 Americans over the age of 50 has PAD, yet many remain undiagnosed.
Risk of Amputation: For diabetic patients, reduced blood flow due to PAD dramatically increases the risk of foot ulcers, non-healing wounds, and subsequent infections that often lead to amputation. Early detection with PADnet is the first step toward limb preservation.
Warning Sign for Heart Health: PAD is often a symptom of widespread arterial disease. If the vessels in your legs are blocked, there is a higher probability that arteries supplying the heart and brain are also narrowed, increasing your risk of heart attack and stroke.
Quality of Life: PAD causes pain, cramping, and difficulty walking (known as claudication), which severely limits mobility and independence.
Who Needs a PADnet Test?
If you answer "YES" to any of the following, you should schedule your non-invasive PADnet screening today:
You have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol
You are over the age of 50 and have a history of smoking or diabetes
You are over the age of 65
You have Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes

Untreated PAD can greatly increase a patient’s risk for more serious conditions, such as kidney disease and gangrene, which can lead to leg amputation. It can also diminish one’s ability to function and participate in daily activities. Symptoms such as intermittent claudication, which causes pain with walking, can be debilitating and reduce quality of life.
